Barbara Edidin creates still life patterns rooted in her early interest in quilting, and currently works from photographs to sustain the sense of freshness of the many flowers she paints. She attended the Kansas City Art Institute and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff where she majored in ceramics.

Biography from Leslie Levy Fine Art, Inc.:
Using the medium of colored pencil, Barbara Edidin has developed a technique which results in remarkably detailed drawings. Her realistic still lifes featuring flowers, sometimes fruit and always fabrics with lots of contrasting patterns, are for many viewers, a visual feast for the eyes. "One thing that I would like to communicate through my work is a sense of abundance".

Edidin begins a new painting with much thought and planning. The objects she chooses often include glass vases, mirrored trays and silver bowls with reflective surfaces. The scarves, tablecloths and other fabrics are often selected from a bygone era. Flowers are carefully chosen or grown in the artist's own garden. The artist describes this careful preparation and the placement of these objects as very much like setting the stage for a play.

Her use of colored pencils requires great patience, skill and focus. The drawings take many long hours to complete. Her exceptional talent and love for the medium has yielded her many artistic rewards. One is drawn into a Barbara Edidin still life the way one is drawn to the view outside an open window.
