This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born near Chico, CA on Feb. 11, 1873. At age four Bertha Luce moved nearby to Ukiah with her parents. She married Forest Emery in 1892 and for forty-two years (1903-45) ran a millinery business in Ukiah while painting in her leisure. A pupil of Grace Hudson and L. P. Latimer, she painted in both oil and watercolor until 1915 and then painted only watercolors. Her works are mainly of the flowering fields and mountains of Mendocino County. Mrs. Emery died in Ukiah, CA on Oct. 29, 1957. Exh: SFAA, April 1906; Saturday Afternoon Club (Ukiah), 1930 (solo); CSL, 1936 (solo); GGIE, 1939 (gold medal); Mendocino Co. Historical Society, 1987 (retrospective).
