| Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Bruno Ertz was a self-taught artist known primarily for his depictions of birds and insects. Many of his works were small scale. He was first in the city directory of Milwaukee in 1891 at age 18, and he shared a studio with Frank Bresler who was also from Manitowoc. From 1896 to 1898, he was in Detroit and worked as a portrait artist with Percy Cuthberg Nash, and then went back to Milwaukee until 1918 when he began a residency in his hometown that lasted through the (showing 500 of 1024 characters). |
