Biography from AskART:
| Mexican born, Carlos Estrada-Vega is a painter of labor-intensive
geometric compositions that are 'handmade objects' in that he carefully
applies paint to tiny square pegs of wood, no larger than an inch in
diameter, which he then attaches to a steel plate with a small imbedded
magnet on the back of the painted peg. Each peg is painted with
pure color, so that the overall effect is one of brilliant, unmixed
colors. Each work is independently hung, but he regards the
totality of his pieces as inter-related, meaning part of one large
composition.
Estrada-Vega has a studio in Las Cruces, New Mexico, after having lived
in Los Angeles for more than 20 years. He earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree from California State University at Bakersfield and
contined his studies at the University of California at Santa
Barbara.
