Biography from AskART:
| From New York state, Georgia Engelhard, a wildlife painter and
outdoors-person, was an art student in college who early focused on
painting and then abandoned that pursuit for photography.
She became an avid mountain climber, an activity encouraged when she
was a young woman, age 20, and climbed Mount Rainier with her
father. Later, with her family she did mountain climbing in the
Canadian Rockies and Pinnacle Mountain in Georgia, and during her adult
life she did much mountain climbing alone.
In the early 1930s, she did over thirty ascents in the Rocky and
Selkirk Mountains and also began climbing in Europe. There as
well as in the Canadian Rockies her companion was Eaton "Tony"
Cromwell, whom she married in 1947.
