Born in Rochester, New York, Harvey Ellis was a painter of 'old world'
genre and landscape scenes and an architect. During his life, he
lived in many locations, and finally returned to his birthplace.
Painting was secondary to his 'bread and butter' vocation of
architecture.
Little is known of his childhood or general education before 1871-72
when records show he was a student at West Point Academy, a place from
where he was dishonorbly dismissed after one year.
