| | Born in New York in 1860. Epting was a resident of San Francisco and a staff artist with West Shore magazine in 1880-98. Continuing in this line of work, he was with the Oregonian in Portland during his final years. A loner, he made many trips to Alaska in search of solitude and painting subjects.
