Born on May 29, 1806 in Providence, Rhode Island, he died in Providence on May 18, 1888.
As a boy already, he went to Boston and apprenticed as an engraver,
showing great talent and a love for the arts. Later on, he went
to New York and on to Europe to further his art education and practice.
Eddy realized that there was a market for reproductions of European Old
Master paintings, and he became one of the earliest American importers
