This biography from the Archives of AskART:
|  Portrait and miniature painter, Jean Pierre Henri Elouis was born in Caen, France in 1755. He emigrated to the United States, settling in Baltimore, Maryland in 1791, coming from Alexandria, Virginia and Annapolis, Maryland, where he spent some time prior. He was then working in Philadelphia from 1792-94.
Elouis returned to France and died there in 1840.
