The following information is from Marge Cantine:

I have a half tear sheet from The Critic (19th century literary magazine) with a tribute as his obituary. It says Joe Evans was a painter of landscapes.  He served "for more than one term" as president of the Art Students League in NYC. He was also Secretary of the Society of American Artists. He was an invalid his entire life, but without complaint, a buoyant personality. "It was in his exquisitely painted landscapes that one f (showing 500 of 1821 characters).
