This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Miniature, landscape, and theatrical scene painter, John Evers began his career as an artist around 1816. He began by exhibiting architectural drawings at the American Academy.
It seems that he was a student of John J. Holland, scene-painter at the old Park Theatre in 1818 and associated with his teacher until at least 1839. During the 1840's and 1850's he was active as a panorama painter in New York City, and he continued to at least 1864. He was a founding member and often exhibited at the National Academy.
