Pastel artist and writer John Elliot is the founder and former president of the Oil Pastel Association. He is also the founder and president of the International Oil Pastel Association. He was a past vice president of the Pastel Society of America and a juror and member of the Salmagundi Club and Society of Illustrators.

John Elliot's commissioned work includes paintings for Ronald Reagan, Katherine Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. His work is in many private and public collections (showing 500 of 847 characters).
