This biography from the Archives of AskART:
|  Portrait, genre, and landscape painter, Joseph Oriel Eaton studied in New York City but worked mainly in the Midwest. He was active in Indianapolis 1846-48; in Cincinnati, 1850, 1853, and 1857-60; and in New Orleans before 1857. During the latter part of his career he was a successful painter of children's portraits in New York City.
