The following, submitted July 2004, is from Carol Ayers, a cousin of the artist. She writes that "four portraits hang in our home today, along with a landscape of the "Fields of Tara" from 'Gone With The Wind'."

Kate Flournoy Edwards, a portrait painter, was born July 29, 1877 in Marshallville, Georgia, and died. May 23, 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Joseph Asbury Edwards and Emma Jane Miller.

Miss Edwards began painting at the age of 8. After attending school in Marshallville, she attended Price's College For Women in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1903 she began study at the Chicago Art Institute, and she later studied in Paris, France. As a young woman she left Marshallville and went to Atlanta, GA to practice her profession.

In May 1971 Miss Edwards published a book titled "Rhymes for Good Times and other Verses".

In 1972, at the age of 94, she was chosen Atlanta's Woman of the Year.

Miss Edwards painted almost 800 portraits including top sports figures, businessmen and politicians.

At her passing, Miss Edwards' body was willed to Emory University for the furthering of science.
