| The following is from Paul Endres, the son of the artist:
Louis J. Endres was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1896, studied art in the Cincinnati Art Academy.
1920 Won a Tiffany scholarship to study in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York.
1924 Continues his studies in Paris with Castelucho at the Academy de " La Grande Chaumière".
1925 Becomes art professor at the Cincinnati Art Academy.
1926 1st trip to North Africa, and a studio in Algiers.
1927 A 2nd trip to North Africa, with an exposition in the Cincinnati Art Museum.
1928 Back to Paris, with a studio at "Passy".
1930 A 3rd trip to Morocco, studio in Marrakech.
1931 Moves to Rabat, and opens his new studio. He becomes known as the American artist of North Africa, and is commissioned to execute portraits and typical Moroccan scenes.
1935 His art work is greatly appreciated during an exposition of "Les peintres d'Afrique du Nord, exposition which is inaugurated by Albert Lebrun at the "Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre"
1939-1944...Lives through the 2nd WW, as a US citizen in a French Protectorate, governed by Vichy
1944 Sees through his binoculars the allied fleet, off the shores of Rabat, ready for the North African landing.
1947...Receives an order from the Moroccan government to create a "Diorama of the Grand Atlas", which will be exposed in Bordeaux.
1948 He receives another order for a "Diorama of Tizi n'Test" for an exposition in Stasbourg.
1950 His "Diorama du Moyen Atlas" is presented at the "Exposition Internationale Francaise".
1952 His paintings are acquired by his Highness S.A. The Sultan Sidi Mohammed V of Morocco.
1961 President Eisenhower purchases a painting of a Moroccan subject painted by an American from Cincinnati Ohio!
1962 Moves to Rome, Italy, and sets up his new studio at the Villa Albani and exposes in the US embassy at the Via Veneto.
1963 Moves to Lausanne, in Switzerland, his first studio at Chamblandes and then at Florybel and Maupas.
Louis J. Endres died in his last studio in 1989
