"The rose as cosmos, the cosmos as rose. Marionne Ernst is the painter of the rose".
She was born on 15 May 1955 in South Limburg, an area of the Netherlands described as 'Burgundian', which means influenced more by French joie de vivre than by Calvinist sobriety. Marionne Ernst received a proper upbringing and led a sheltered life until she was 12. Her parents introduced her to the visual arts at an early age.
