Living in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, Maxime Ewertz created terra cotta sculptures of Dutch Amish figures, whom she and her artist husband, Henry Ewertz, referred to as the "Plain People."

She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Pennsylvania where she met her husband.
