| | Born on a ship in the Caribbean Sea on Nov. 6, 1862. Oceana's parents returned with her to California shortly after her birth and she was educated in seminaries in Napa and Benicia. In 1882 she married George Edgar in Napa and moved to southern California. Settling in Santa Ana, she continued to paint and teach small classes in easel and china painting until her demise on Dec. 22, 1948.
