Biography from
Virginia Barger Evans (1894-1983) Painter, sculptor, glass designer and art educator was born in Moundsville, West Virginia in 1894. From the 'teens through the early 1930s she studied at the Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Carnegie Institute of Technology, and the School of Fine Arts in Fontainbleau, France.

She exhibited her work while in Europe, returning to Wheeling, West Virginia in the 1930s. She painted landscape, portrait/figurative, genre, and still life subjects in a variety of realist and abstract styles that included Impressionism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism. In the 1950s-60s she worked in the Ohio Valley area as a designer for the Imperial, Fostoria, Warwick and Viking glass companies.

She died in Wheeling, West Virgina in 1983.

Wheeling Art Club, Allied Artists of Pittsburgh, National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, American Federation of Arts, National Academy of Woman Artists. Collections: West Virginia Historical Society, West Virginia State Museum, Oglebay Institute Mansion Museum.
