This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in La Gineta, Albacete, Spain on Aug. 29, 1860. Fernandez began his career as a set designer in the theaters of Madrid. He studied art in Paris at the turn of the century and by the 1920s had moved to California. Settling in Hollywood, he continued in set designing while making painting forays up the coast as far as San Francisco. His career ended with his death in Hollywod on Jan. 24, 1928. His attention to detail and realistic, crystal-clear painting style evinces a thorough academic training. His works are rare. Exh: Exposiciones Nacionales (Madrid), 1901 (1st prize).
