Bertha Miles Knox Foster was born in Hymer, Kansas on May 25, 1893. Bertha moved to San Diego in 1906.
By 1920 she was the wife of Jonathan D. Foster, but the marriage ended in divorce. She studied painting with Rudolph Schaeffer, Stanton MacDonald-Wright, and Henry V. Poor.
She was active in southern California during the 1930s as head of the art department at Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale. Upon retirement in 1957, she moved north to Palo A (showing 500 of 1078 characters). |
