Betty Morris Finney was born in Sydney, Australia on February 20, 1913. Her grandfather was William Morris Hughes, Prime Minister of Australia. Betty Finney began studying art at the age of eight at the Royal Art Society in Sydney and as a teenager studied art at the Academie Colarossi in Paris and at the Academie des Beaux Arts, Brussels. She attended Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and studied under Paul Clemens, Ejnar Hansen, Norman Rockwell, Pruett Carter, Dan Lutz, and others.
