| Known for his realistic miniature portraits with much linear detail,
flat coloring, and stippled technique, Charles Fraser completed more
than five-hundred miniatures, most of them with dark gray
backgrounds. He did a few landscapes, sometimes as backgrounds
for his portraiture such as in the painting of James R. Pringle,
1820. From
the 1820s to 1840s, he did watercolor sketches of local plantations,
and small oil paintings
of Northern landscapes including Niagara Falls and a (showing 500 of 1733 characters). |
