| Born in Lausenburg, Canton of Aargau, Switzerland on Feb. 10, 1805. After arriving in the U.S. about 1830, Fenderich lived in Philadelphia where he worked with John Caspar Wild and did many portraits for Lehman and Duval. In 1837 he moved to Washington, DC where he painted political portraits as well as military and naval views. Joining the Gold Rush, he came across the plains to California in 1849. Fenderich lived in San Jose for one year before settling in San Francisco where he was active (showing 500 of 834 characters). |
