The following biography of Dorothea Warren Fox has been provided by her daughter, Rebecca Rice.
Illustrator and author Dorothea Warren Fox was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 31, 1914. Forced to leave college due to The Depression, she financed a move to New York in 1933 at the age of nineteen by drawing a lightning bolt figure for a family friend, Ashton Collins. This little lightning bolt figure became "Reddy Kilowatt" and launched her career in illustration and commercial art (showing 500 of 3064 characters). |
