| Durr Freedley was a portrait artist, muralist, and the curator of decorative arts at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He studied at Harvard College and the Royal College of Art, London. His work is located at: Newport Art Museum: ACCESS RESTRICTED. APPOINTMENT REQUIRED The Newport Art museum owns approximately 300 miscellaneous works by Freedley, including all the study sketches for the Seaman's Church Institute Chapel; designs for Christmas cards, bookplates, exhibition catalogs; and small paintings. Mediums include pencil, watercolor and gouache. Listed below is a small sampling of work. 1. Seamen's Church Institute Chapel, Newport: Entire chapel was designed and decorated in Arts and Crafts style by Freedley (1933) Included are full wall murals, furnishings, window and ceiling ornamentation.
St. John's Episcopal Church, Newport: 1. Designed window "Christ and Melchisedek" and decorations in the south side aisle, Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
