From Breton in Rennes where he was born, Emmanuel Fougerat was a
painter of portraits and nude figures and was also an art educator and
museum professional. He studied in Paris with Albert Maignan and
Jean-Paul Laurens. He was Director of the Ecole des Beaux Arts de
Nantes, and founded the museum there, serving as Curator.
In 1912, he was Named a Knight of the French Legion of Honor.
