| | Born in Los Angeles, CA on Feb. 23, 1901. Farmer studied at Stanford University, Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design, ASL in NYC, and with George Bridgman, Charles Locke, and Jan Matulka. In 1923 he began teaching at Stanford and served as head of the graphic arts department during 1940-56. He died in Los Angeles on Oct. 21, 1980.
