Landscape painter and teacher Emery A. Filleau, 1855-1935, was born in New York City. He studied there, later teaching in Kansas City, Missouri, and then before 1900 moving to Houston where in 1929, he opened an art gallery. He also pursued fine-art painting and teaching. Filleau died in Houston, and is buried there.
His work is in the collections of the Houston public schools, and the San Jacinto Museum of History, La Porte, Texas.
