Franjo Filipovic was born in 1930 in Hlebine, Croatia, where he has lived all his life.
He spent a lot of time in circles of first generation Croatian naïve artists such as Krsto Hegedušic, Franjo Mraz, Mirko Virius and his uncle Ivan Generalic. They all gathered as part of the group/forum “Zemlja” (meaning Earth) since 1930. He had his first exhibition in 1946. He painted village scenes, landscapes, and still lives over approximately his 50-year career, when his health stopped him.
