Frans Francken (1542–1616) was a Flemish Baroque painter and an important member of the Francken family of artists.
Francken was born in Antwerp. According to Karel van Mander who listed him as one of Frans Floris's pupils, he entered the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke in 1561 and died relatively young in Antwerp.
According to the RKD he was alive until 1616, well after Van Mander's own death, but at the time Van Mander was writing in 1604, Francken's son Frans Francken the Younger was (showing 500 of 864 characters). |
