This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Known for a series of large-scale paintings called City of Billboards, PA, Gary Faigin is exploring in these works the apparent desire of businesses to out-do each other with advertising. In these pieces, the billboards with giant pop objects loom over the city.
His method is to combine working en plein air on the foregrounds and then insert large-scale imaginary objects such as lemons to dominate the work. His goal is to alter the viewer's perception of the commonplace and develop mood through contrast of light and dark. Faigin is also the artistic director and co-founder of the Seattle Academy of Fine Art where he teaches. |
