Landscape painter and born in Yreka, CA on Jan. 22, 1858, Grace Russell was raised in Ashland, OR. There in 1878 she wed James Fountain. She began painting about 1882, studied locally with Wm S. Parrott, and by the 1890s had established a studio in Portland where she taught small classes of women. While there she illustrated Joaquin Miller's Sea of Silence, which appeared in the September 1904 issue of Sunset magazine.
In 1907 she and her husband moved to Oakland, CA which (showing 500 of 1081 characters). |
