| | Born in Los Angeles, CA on Aug. 2, 1908. After graduating from Pasadena High School, Formhals studied locally at the Stickney Art School. He then worked for several years as a commercial artist before collaborating with artist Fred Fox on such comic strips as "Ella Cinders" and "Freckles and his Friends."
