Hortense Ferne is one of the women whose work during the first half of the 20th century helped pave the way for later women artists who are now even more famous than she.
Ferne was born in New York City and studied with Charles Webster Hawthorne and William Merritt Chase, whose influence can clearly be seen in her work. She is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Philadelphia Mu (showing 500 of 917 characters). |
