| | Born in New Orleans, LA on April 8, 1848. By 1878 "Jake" Fowzer had come to California and soon settled in San Francisco. There he maintained a home at 337 Hayes and a photography studio on Market Street. A lodger in his home was portrait painter Joseph Hecht who taught him to paint. While earning his living as a photographer, he became a competent landscape painter in his leisure. Fowzer died in San Francisco on Feb. 17, 1920. Exh: Mechanics' Inst.
