The following is from the artist:


Born,1926, in New Jersey, Joe Frassetta moved to Philadelphia at a very early age. After schooling, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After discharge he attended Art school on the G.I. Bill.

He completed studies at the at the Cannon School of Art, and then briefly taught at the school. He also studied with renowned portrait painter Robert Susann. Frassetta entered the world of advertising as a graphic designer, and over the years held positions as Art and/or Creative Director at Agencies, Design Organizations and Corporations in New York and Philadelphia, creating print, film and exhibition material for national media.

He has received a number of awards in advertising and graphic arts exhibitions including the NTH Award of the Philadelphia Art Directors Society, where he also served on the Board of Directors and as Vice-President. He has lectured on design at colleges and business seminars and authored articles on design for publications like "Editors Notebook" and "Print Magazine".

In 1985 he left advertising to pursue a career as a fine artist. In the ensuing
years his paintings have received many honors in national and regional
Exhibitions. Among his awards are a number of first prizes and medal
Awards including :
The Rouse Gold Medal, The National Exhibition of American Watercolors,
Adirondacks, N.Y.
The Medal of Honor, Grand National, American Artist Professional League,
New York, N. Y.
The Mario Cooper/Dale Myers Medal of the American Watercolor Society, New York, N. Y.
The Bronze Medal, Mid-Atlantic Exhibition of the Baltimore Watercolor Society.
The Grumbacher Gold Medal, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society as well as
Several awards from the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor USA.
He is also the recipient of The Crest Medal of the Philadelphia W/C Society
and is a member of the Watercolor USA Honor Society.

He has exhibited in most national juried and invitational group shows including the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Watercolor USA, Arts for the Parks, Allied Artist, etc. He has had one and two-man shows in the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions and solo shows at the American, Cabrini and Immaculata Colleges in the Philadelphia region.

He holds signature membership in the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and Watercolor USA.
