| Born in Ohio on June 1, 1911, French settled in San Jose, CA in 1925 and graduated from San Jose State College in 1933. He then joined the art faculty there and, after several years of teaching at Tamalpais High School and UC, he returned to head the department in 1956.
He died in Santa Clara, CA on April 14, 1970.
