John Peter Frankenstein was one of the children of Gustav Ludwig Frankenstein and a part of a family of German immigrant artists:: John Peter (circa 1816-1881), Godfrey N. (1820-1873), George, Gustavus (died 1902), Marie (1822-1900) and Eliza (1828-1919. The family arrived in Cincinnati in 1831, and moved to Springfield, Ohio, in 1849.
John Peter Frankenstein began as a self-taught portrait painter, polished his skills in the big eastern art centers, and enjoyed considerable success (showing 500 of 1559 characters). |
