Biography from Butler Institute of American Art:
Josef Foshko was born in Odessa, Russia in 1895. At the age of sixteen he finished his courses at the Imperial Art School with a scholarship to study in Paris. During his seven-year stay in France, he exhibited with the Societe des Artistes Francaise and with the Societe Nationale de Beaux Arts.

His first one-man show in New York was held in 1935. Three followed in sequence, the last two at the Farargil Galleries. During this period he exhibited in major art shows from coast to coast. Foshko's watercolors, temperas, and oils are in the permanent collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Butler Institute of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, as well as in various important private collections.

He exhibited at the Whitney, the National Academy, National Gallery of Canada, the Carnegie Institute and the Golden Gate International of San Francisco.
