The following, submitted August 2005, is from the artist.

Laurie Fendrich is an abstract painter who lives and works in New York.  She is a Professor of Fine Arts at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, NY, where she has been teaching since 1989.

Her work has been reviewed in such publications as The New York Times, Art in America, ARTS Magazine, ArtNews, ArtForum, Partisan Review, The New York Observer, New York Magazine.

She has received an NEA grant, and has been a visiting artist at a number of institutions, including Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, The Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, NY, the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Delaware, Triangle Workshop, and The Irish Arts Council Critical Voices Program.

She is the author of several essays on art, and is a frequent contributor to The Chronicle of Higher Education.  Among her most recent essays are "Sleeping Beauty," The Common Review, Winter, 2005, and "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Mess," The Chronicle of Higher Education, 3 June 2005.  Her essay "Why Paint a Painting at the End of the 20th Century" was published by Phi Delta Kappa Educational Organization as a 10,000-word essay in their Fastback Series in 2000.
