| Maren Margrethe Froelich was born in Fresno, CA of Danish parents on June 28, 1868. Froelich studied art in San Francisco in the studio of William Keith and at the School of Design under Virgil Williams, Emil Carlsen, Amédée Joullin, and Arthur Mathews. While at that school, her paintings were awarded two gold medals. During 1907-11 she further studied in Paris with Theodore Steinlen, Richard Miller, and at Académie Castelluccio.
