| | Born in New York on Jan. 8, 1887. “Nelle” Fischer was educated at New York State Teachers College and New York School of Fine Arts. She taught art at Princeton (NJ) High School for six years before coming to California in 1922. Settling in Santa Cruz, she continued teaching in the public schools there while further studying at the CSFA and CCAC. A spinster, she died in Santa Cruz on Dec. 13, 1975.
