Pedro Figari was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He earned his law degree in 1886 and soon acquired a reputation as a talented defense counselor. As a journalist, he founded the newspaper El Diario.
Figari later occupied a seat in Uruguay’s Chamber of Deputies. He was named director of the Escuela de Artes y Oficios and fostered reforms concerning industrial instruction.
