| Born of Creek Indian descent in Oklahoma, she painted contemporary Indian life in an expressive style. From 1963 to 1964, she attended the Institute of American Indian Art and also studied with expressionist Howard Warshaw at the University of California at Santa Barbara, 1966 to 1967. In 1973, she earned a B.F.A. from the University of Oklahoma and then taught at Northeastern and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
