This biographical information was taken from the exhibition catalogue "Triumph of Color and Light, Ohio Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, James M. Keny author, held at the Columbus Museum of Art in Association with Keny Galleries, 1994.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A resident of Columbus, Ohio and historian of art and architecture at Ohio State University, Ralph Fanning was a noted regionalist artist.  He was born at Riverhead, Long Island, New York, and studied at Cornell University and the University of Illinois.

Memberships included the Columbus Art League, the Ohio Watercolor Society and the Washington Watercolor Society.  In 1954, he had a Fulbright Scholarship to Egypt.
