A painter and a musician, he claims to have turned to art because he failed everything else. Interested in painting at an early age, he attended East Boston High, and then the Massachusetts College of Art, where he eventually earned his M.F.A. degree. Playing Rock and Roll and also the Blues, he never neglected his painting and has had numerous shows in galleries in New England. Ferrandini continues to paint despite a debilitating stroke.
