This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Robert Florczak attended Cooper Union School of Design in New York City where he studied painting under Will Barnet and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He also took lessons from artist Jerry Meatyard.
Florczak taught painting at Widner University and the Art Institute of Philadelphia. As a commercial artist, Robert has enjoyed an active career that spans more than two decades, with extensive work in the advertising, entertainment and publishing fields. An accomplished musician, Robert has also performed and recorded music of his own composition.
Florczak is known for realistic paintings of period-costume subjects, historical, literary, and romantic. Additionally, his work reflects a passion for the Academic and Victorian painters of the 19th Century. Methods include most traditional media, primarily oil, watercolor, and pencil.
Robert has produced the artwork for four published children's books, has two completed books in production and is at work on several others. Florczak's premiere book, The Rainbow Bridge, by the best-selling author Audrey Wood, was an American Bookseller Pick of the List. Following were Rough Sketch Beginning, by Jamaican poet James Berry, O.B.E. and Birdsong, also authored by Audrey Wood.
Florczak's captivating illustration of Charles Dickens' The Magic Fishbone (Harcourt) and A Cowboy Christmas (Simon & Schuster, Fall 2001) is the third pairing with Audrey Wood. Additionally, Florczak has written and will be illustrating two books for Scholastic's Blue Sky Press, The Incredibly Coincidental but Amazingly True Life Adventures of a Boy Named Jack and Catarina & Felinio - A Venetian Fairy Tale.
As an accomplished recording artist, Florczak has performed in nightclubs and concert halls around the country, from New York's famed Bitter End to Aspen's Wheeler Opera House. For two years he appeared in concert as a member of Liverpool, a pre-Beatlemania musical review. His music has been recorded and released internationally, including the soundtrack he composed and performed for the motion picture Roar, recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Robert currently resides in Southern California with his wife, Amy, and their two young children.
