A realist painter, he creates "trompe l'oeil" still lifes, so realistic seeming that they "fool the eye." His goal is to give common, everyday objects a life of their own.
He lives near Boulder, Colorado and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, the University of Colorado at Denver and Atelierhaus Worpswede in Germany. In the 1980s, he was in Germany and learned the Old Master techniques of glazing or building up luminous surfaces of oil paint.
