| Born in Youngstown, OH on May 1, 1876. While serving in the Spanish American War, Folawn was awarded a medal of honor and contracted maleria while in Leyte. For health reasons he visited Colorado in 1901 and was so enchanted with the area that he settled in Boulder. He studied at the Colorado School of Fine Arts, in Paris with van Waeyenberge, and in New York with J. M. Waloft.
